Playdough is a long standing favorite toy for kids, but parents can be wary due to the messy nature of the activity. To add more structure to playtime, show your kids some artistic and fun creations they can make with their playdough.
Playdough is easy to mold, perfect for small hands, and doesn’t make a huge mess, making it a perfect tool as well for activities like teaching the letters of the alphabet.
What You’ll Need:
- Multiple colors of Playdough
- A large white piece of paper or cardboard to work on
- A rolling pin
- Fun goggly eyes or stickers
- A pencil for shaping and drawing
Playdough Sculptures:
The possibilities are endless when it comes to things to sculpt out of your playdough. You can let your imagination run wild and build a statue or sculpture from scratch, or you can try to recreate some of your favorite characters. We naturally recreated our favorite friends- Chuck E. Cheese, Jasper Jowls, Munch, and Helen Henny look pretty good made out of playdough!
Playdough Games:
Did you know you can use playdough to play checkers or tic tac toe? First, start by building the game piece sets. For tic tac toe, roll out five x’s and five o’s in different colors and shape the letters. Next, take a third color and roll out four long skinny pieces of playdough for your game grid. Find yourself an opponent, and you are ready to play!
Playdough Food:
The saying “No playing with your food” doesn’t count when it’s playdough right? It is easy to use your playdough to model some of your favorite foods. Some of the easiest to make include a breakfast plate of eggs and bacon, or creating a pizza and adding all of your favorite toppings. Don’t forget to make a plate to put all of your delicious food on!
Playdough Letters:
For children learning their letters and numbers, playdough can be an interactive way to play and learn at the same time. You can work together with your child to teach them how to mold their name, the alphabet, or home address. This is where having a pencil can come in handy to create straight lines or edges for your numbers or letters.
