When it comes to princess party ideas, almost anything goes. As long as your little one is happy, her princess party can be anything she wants it to be. And can be held at home, her favorite restaurant, a park or elsewhere. Of course, there are some princess birthday party staples, like costumes, elegant cakes or cupcakes, and fun and games, so keep that in mind as you prepare for a royal celebration.

Her Home is Her Castle
If a party at home is more her style, and yours, you can transform your living room, play room, basement, or even your dining room for a royal celebration. Think fresh flowers, streamers, glittery balloons suspended from the ceiling, and if possible, a handmade photo backdrop featuring a castle (be sure to take pictures of each guest, then print the photos while the party is taking place). For snacks, serve finger foods like little sandwiches, cheese and crackers, hummus and veggies, and punch served in plastic champagne coupes. And for dessert, give them princess-themed cupcakes. When it’s time to bid your guests adieu, give each guest a printed, and framed, photo taken in front of the castle backdrop.
Playtime at the Park
If an outdoor celebration is your little one’s idea of the perfect princess party, give her one to remember. Choose a beautiful park with picnic tables, and invite her friends to arrive in princess attire (made outdoor appropriate with the addition of boots, sneakers, sweaters, jackets, etc.). Then dress the table in a cloth table cloth and napkins, and set it with pretty plastic plates, champagne flutes, and silver-toned plastic flatware. Serve her favorite picnic foods, as well as sparkling water or sparkling juices, and finish the meal with a tower of cupcakes, a layer cake, a pyramid of brownies or her favorite dessert. After lunch, let the kids use their imaginations and recreate scenes from their favorite princess movies as they play in the park.
Elegant Tea Party
Whether it’s a garden tea party, or one set indoors, this princess party idea is always a smash hit. Start by inviting all of her friends to celebrate, and come dressed in their favorite party dresses. Then, set the table in crisp linens and china that you’ve purchased at a thrift store (unless you really trust your guests, don’t use your heirloom china). Be sure to include tiered trays, silverware and glass champagne coupes or flutes in the table setting. For the meal, serve both fresh pots of tea, and sparkling water or juices, as well as classic food, like scones, finger sandwiches, fresh veggies and dip, and petite fours, madeleine cookies, and mini-cupcakes for dessert. To thank your guests for coming, give them candies wrapped in tulle, or a special teacup to take home with them.
As with all parties, be sure to make your little one’s princess party her own. If she’s old enough for a sleepover, plan one – and treat your guests to a princess movie fest, as well as pancakes in the morning. If she loves scavenger hunts, develop a special hunt that includes clues and prizes related to princesses (like tiaras, rings, and sashes), or if she loves to cook, host a princess party that includes decorating a gingerbread castle.
